Despite economy, GE remarkets more than 14,000 trailers in 2009

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - March 1, 2010 - Despite the difficult economy in 2009, GE's Trailer Fleet Services business continued its long-standing track record of used trailer sales volume by selling more than 14,000 late-model trailers during 2009. The achievement was announced during the annual Truckload Carriers Association meeting here.

GE operates five dedicated Retail Centers for trailer sales across the U.S., and is considering adding more based on the market demand. Sales also occur at GE's rental branches. The trailers being sold are from GE's own fleet, and are typically older model returns coming back in from lease customers at the end of term.

Prior to the recession, GE was regularly hitting 20,000 units or more each year in remarketing volume, and uses its 53 years experience in the business to find customers in a variety of markets.

Tony O'Brien, GE's Remarketing Product Line Leader, said the success -- in a clearly down market environment for equipment sales -- can be attributed to many first-time buyers in the owner operator segment, and from trucking firms absorbing new routes due to consolidation in the industry from bankruptcies and business failures. These firms typically don't have the time to review the fleet of trailers they may have acquired, and are looking for good value late-model units to fill their needs, and at less cost than buying new.
